The State Historic Preservation Office annually administers between 60 and 100 preservation restrictions on historic properties, usually as a result of previous rehabilitation/restoration grants provided by the agency to properties owned by municipalities or non-profit organizations. Preservation restrictions require that written approval be obtained from the SHPO's Historic Preservation Council prior to performing any work on the property other than routine maintenance.
A sample of the preservation restriction can be found here.
