Elizabeth L. Mahaffey Arts Administration Fellowship
The Elizabeth L. Mahaffey Arts Administration Fellowship annually recognizes one exceptionally accomplished Connecticut arts administrator with a $2,500 award to be used for professional development activities. To be eligible, administrators must be state residents employed by Connecticut nonprofit arts organizations (or involved in ongoing arts programs of nonprofit organizations, colleges and universities). Applicants must have at least seven years of professional arts administration experience, including three with their current organization. Individuals must be full-time residents of the state.
Administrators employed as consultants, contractors or subcontractors are not eligible to apply. Unpaid and volunteer staff members are also ineligible.

Elizabeth L. Mahaffey Arts Administration Fellowship Recipient 2010: Steve Sigel {Steve Sigel}
Steve Sigel became the first Executive Director of the Garde Arts Center in April, 1988, and has established the Garde as the major performing arts center for Southeastern Connecticut. He spearheaded a $15 million campaign to renovate the 1500-seat historic theatre and helped acquire four adjacent office holdings for additional theatre, education and community services. His career combines a unique mix of community development, theatre production and administration.
In support of the Garde’s mission as a cultural and economic catalyst, Sigel was a founding member of City Center District, New London’s downtown business improvement district, the New London Main Street Program, and Mystic Coast and Country travel and leisure council. He was also a founder of the Arts Alliance of Southeastern Connecticut, twice produced the Governor’s Arts Awards and hosted and produced The Library of Congress Film Preservation Tour and the national launch of the National Endowment for Arts Shakespeare touring initiative.
