Herk Van Tongeren
Serie Metafisica XVIII
exterior bronze sculpture

Four Greek columns and two large spheres poised on an inclined plane sit on a small hill on the campus of Southern Connecticut State University.  The bronze sculpture by Herk Van Tongeren overlooks a pond and frames the New Haven skyline between its soaring columns that stand 12 feet above grade.  It is a unique piece with a strong visual presence and references both the arts and sciences through its geometric forms, classical columns, and the relationship to the existing architecture at the University.
