CCT: City Canvas

City Canvas was a one-time initiative bringing mural-based public art into downtown spaces throughout the state of Connecticut. The initiative aimed to enhance public spaces using visual arts as a devise to connect various urban regions of Connecticut through a statewide placemaking initiative.  (Click here to learn more about creative placemaking.)

List of participating cities: Bridgeport, Hartford, New Britain, New London, Stamford, Torrington, and Waterbury.

Stamford
 
City Canvas:
  • Created vibrant and energizing artworks around the state and imbed them into major urban areas.
  • Was an opportunity to commission artwork by Connecticut artists for highly visible exterior locations in city spaces.
  • Created artworks that resonated with the community for which they were created for.
  • Included either permanent or temporary works of art which varied in media based on the needs of the community and the space. 

Highlights: 
    Mural Walk were unveiled on Saturday, July 7, 2012.    

> Bridgeport's first light-based projection will be "turned on" on July 12 at 7:00 p.m.
