DRS: Hartford Man Charged with Failure to Pay Sales/Use Tax

A Hartford man was arrested and charged with 18 counts of collecting but not remitting sales tax to the Connecticut Department of Revenue Services (DRS).

Hector Moran, age 44, of 40 Goodrich St, Hartford, was arrested by DRS Agents from the Special Investigations Unit at his place of business, Andrea’s Restaurant on Franklin Avenue.

Said DRS Commissioner Kevin Sullivan, "The vast majority of Connecticut businesses comply with State tax requirements.  For those that don't, it is our job to enforce the law and ensure honest businesses are not placed at a competitive disadvantage by those who ignore the law or intentionally collect and steal taxpayer dollars."

According to the arrest warrant affidavit, more than $68,000.00 of sales tax was allegedly collected by Moran at Andrea’s Restaurant and not remitted to the state.

Moran was released on a promise to appear and is scheduled to appear in Hartford Superior Court on June 20, 2016.

The charges are unclassified misdemeanors and if found guilty the accused can be fined up to one thousand dollars and/or imprisoned for up to one year for each of the 18 counts.
